the d.c. region is in for another blast of the wintry weather. we'll have what you need to know. >> the big announcement from the white house that will impact every school district in the nation. it has to do with sports. fox 5 morning news continues right now. right now. >> we made it to friday. cold weather is here. it has been here all week long so it is here to stay at least for a little while.

we have some snow and we'll get more snow this afternoon. so if you like snow, this is going to be a good one for you. good morning to you again. i'm wisdom martin. >> i'm sarah simmons. let's get right to it, shall we? some school closings and delays to tell you about because of the winter weather. >> in virginia, culpeper county, virginia public schools are closed. twelve-month employees need to report at 10:00 a.m. king george county schools are closed today with code two for twelve month employees. page county schools are closed. >> spotsylvania county public school are also closed today, code two for twelve-month employees. stafford county public schools are closed. administrative offices will open at 10:00 and employees are all code two. also, clark county and warren county public schools both closed today. in maryland, st. mary's county schools closed with school employees on code two. and in the district, west education campus is closed today due to a power outage.

>> now, the delays. fredericksburg city schools are delayed two hours and orange county public schools are also delayed two hours. federal government, it is open today. however, employees can take that unscheduled leave or telework once again. you can also get the most up to date list on myfoxdc.com and on the bottom of your screen as well. he can tenned weekend for some of those kids out there. >> i'm sure there is no complaining from any of the kids. >> we do have another round of snow on the way, not for your morning commute. the first half of the day will be kind of cloudy. by 2:00, 3:00 today, we'll see some snowflakes and there could be i aperiod of light to moderate snow around here for the evening rush hour. that will be more of a challenge than the evening commute. let's do temperatures. again being we are not talking about a big snowstorm. we are talking about a small event, much like -- much akip to the one we had around here yesterday. so maybe an inch. maybe a little more than an inch in spots. there could be a local jackpot like there was in southern maryland yesterday where we got

two-plus inches of snow but this won't be a big deal. 20degrees at reagan national. 17 at dulles. bwi marshall, 15 degrees. here is our winter weather advisory. and all the counties in purple under a winter weather advisory between 2:00 this afternoon and 9:00 tonight. that is the weather service's lesser advisory but heads up that, just like yesterday, every snowflake that falls into temperatures in the 20s will get a chance to stick and will make every effort to do so on the roadways. there could be slippery spots later today. there is your event and your clipper system, alberta clipper. we'll have more on that in tony and tucker coming up. a lot of clouds for the first half of the day and the snow transitions in mid- to late afternoon. we'll see banding taking place. we should see some light accumulations. it will be just like the system yesterday, very light, fluffy snow. you can almost take a broom to it. doesn't have a lot of moisture with it. it could cause some issues later this afternoon with highs

let's continue now with our maps -- cameras, that is. eastbound at pennsylvania avenue, the lanes are open. as you approach 410 in river dale, we have a water main break and repairs that continue. the left lane is blocked both north and southbound kenilworth avenue approaching 410. you will find your lanes are open if you are traveling through southeast across the anacostia bridges. northbound i-95, easy trip so far in the express lanes and main line headed north out of woodbridge. no trouble spots to report on 395 between the beltway and the 14th street bridge. now, we'll pop up the maps and show you what else is out there that you need to know about. metro is having some problems. the green-yellow line experiencing additional delays due to a switch problem at l'enfant plaza. that's a check of your fox 5 on-time traffic. back now to this arctic blast we've been seeing all week long. crews are preparing for another round of snow this afternoon. >> lauren demarco is live with another look at the road treps. good morning.

>> good morning. it is so cold that maryland state highway is not pretreating the roads with salt this morning because of concerns about potential freezing. now, yesterday, when we saw that snow about 8:30 in the morning, we had several accidents along i-59 in virginia. one involved a state trooper. another involved a v-d.o.t. patrol crew member. both of those folks are okay. they suffered nonlife- threatening injuries. it just goes to show, it can be very dangerous out there and the snow expected today for the affect commute. so crews will be monitoring the area. we've got a live look right now at the roads on 95 in virginia at the mixing bowl. nice and clear. no issues for you right now but again, those roads not being pretreated at this point. we want to be very careful as you head out there this morning. and continuing into the afternoon, prepare ahead of time as julie has been saying. make sure you have a fuel tank of gas, windshield wiper fluid and you have that ice scaper

comcast center beginning at 7:00 a.m. and a mass will follow at 9:00. there will be road closures around the national mall today because of this event. police are investigating a homicide in northwest. a woman was found shot in the head on fisk and nicholson street just before 3:30. no word on a motive or suspects at this time. we will continue to bring you updates as we get them. police in prince george's county arrested two people accused in the dead will you shooting of a high school student. 16-year-old marcus jones was gunned down over the weekend on webster lane in fort washington. a 17-year-old and a 19-year-old now face murder charges. police say the shooting was gang-related. coming up on fox 5 morning news, a message to school as cross the nation from the white house. >> north korea turns its wrath on its neighbor. we are checking more headlines coming up

all right. it will snow. the timing is pretty good for people who are into winter weather because it will be late afternoon friday and going into the weekend so it is not going to be a big deal but we will have a period of snow around here with temperatures only in the upper 20s later today and the temperatures, of course, a big factor even with a light snow as wisdom and sarah will tell you, it doesn't take a whole lot around here to cause some issues. we are looking at maybe an inch. 20 at reagan national. 18 in leonardtown. 18 in annapolis. we continue with these extraordinary cold temperatures this whole week. we'll do another day yet again where we fail to get above the freezing mark. culpeper 14 this morning. here is your storm system on the move. cloud cover to start your day. it will be a cloudy day and eventually the snow showers you see out to the west. this is another clipper system, not a lot of moisture but enough that will likely squeeze

out an inch maybe 2-inch in some spots. your morning commute just fine. it will be later this afternoon, so #:00, 3:00 today, will start to move in from the west. that evening commute could be a bit of a challenge as snow will be flying here by 5:00 p.m. futurecast, this does a nice job of snow moving in. this is just starting to move in. if you are out into west virginia, western maryland, it will move in sooner for you actual cross the area tonight at 6:00, indicating some pretty good snow up and down the 95 corridor here and then by 9:00, 10:00 tonight, it is out of here. ments a very quick mover. so with the clipper system moving afast as it will be, we're in the going to get a lot of moisture or a lot of snow. let me emphasize again temperatures are cold enough just like yesterday that anything that falls from the sky will find a plea to stick here on the surface. cloudy and cold. afternoon snow developing. 27 your daytime high. wind out of the south at five

home. no major tie-ups out there. still quiet making youren bound drive out of laurel and also your lane open southbound on 29 as you travel from burtonsville headed out to the capital beltway. let's continue with the cameras. we'll show you what else is happening. southbound 270, a little busy out hyatts up two. you will find the lanes are open in virginia northbound i- 59 leaving woodbridge, no major back-ups right now continuing across the occoquan. 395 is quiet leaving duke city to the people. d.c. route 295 kept ill worth avenue at speed headed south of the d.c. line. kenilworth avenue at 410, all lanes open both north and southbound. that's a check of your fox 5 on-time traffic. >> thank you. it looks like a plan to get all d.c. taxis to accept credit cards will be doe laid. at a meeting last night of the district's taxicab commission, commissioners failed to get enough members to vote for the proposal so now the plan is for another vote at a special meeting set for next wednesday.

>> let's talk about the markets. what can we expect to the final day of the week. >> very briefly yesterday, the s&p 500 crossed 1500, a remarkable level pushing closer to an all high pressure time high. it set you would up just slightly on the day. but guess what? the longest winning streak for the broader market since october 26, 2006. and the dow is pushing closer to 14,000, just 175 points away. we continue to get earnings today, proctor & gamble, haliburton and also a report on new home sales. coming into the final session of the westbound, the dow and the s&p are higher for four weeks in a row. >> a four-week winning streak. not bad at all. >> so here is one for you. tell us about this business with the desk and what that may possibly say to your boss. >> there is a new bach out called personality style at work and the author, kate ward says in the office we have four personalities and based on what our desks look like.

first personality type means you are direct if you have a lot of paperwork all over your desk but it is organized in piles. if your desk is a complete mess, you are spirited. that is a nice way of saying it. you have a big personality. you tend to exaggerate and talk a lot. i have a lot of clutter. i have my hairspray, wedding picture and earrings. i didn't clean up my desk for this picture. you can see my tv and my computer monitor are off. this means i'm consider at. i like that. i'll tech it. personal clutter. and fourth style is -- and these are the people that i hate, the tidy and organized people. they are considered systematic. when are you guys? >> your desk looks fine by the way. my desk is not on the list because i have cookies, i have a mirror and i have some family pictures. i don't know what says about

in our direction later this afternoon. and let me just mention again, if you want to time it out, i think 2:00, 3:00 is when the snow will start to move on it. temperatures, plenty cold for snow. 13 in pittsburgh. 10 in boston. just 17 in detroit so this cold arctic air continues to reside across new england and the mid- atlantic and the temperatures here on our seven-day forecast actually going to warm up so this is the end of it the next couple of days. here is your winter weather advisory issued late last evening by the national weather service. the primary concern here is that we'll be getting falling snow across the area during the evening rush hour and there could be some slick spots. julie will have more on that. how much snow are we talking about? maybe an inch, maybe two inches in a few spots. i guess worse case scenario would be 3 inches. temperatures only in the mid- to upper 20s, whatever falls

critics. >> are they usually that successful with these movies. >> it's series of interconnected short films baked around gigantic story of dennis quaid pitching a movie to a movie studio. it did not screen to critics. and the stars aren't doing any press. they didn't seen show up to the premier of the film. so it is like they are hiding this movie. >> not a ringing endorsement j i paid to see it last night so i could give you guys a review. i saw it seven hours ago. it starts off very strong, the kate winslet and hugh jackman sequence is very funny. after that, it takes a painful decline into an excruciating by disgusting, disturbing violent movie. for some odd reason, they're just shocking to you shock you. there is absolutely no heart behind any of the comedy and you become numb to t. >> i found myself, this is a four out of five at first and

then it becomes a zero out of five. the last short is so disturbing and so disgusting that you leave the theater just regretting everything you just saw. so my suggestion is to rent the film, watch the first sequence and then turn it off. so i gave the movie a one and a half out of five. >> that was the average between the four and the zero. >> yes. emma stone was in it. one and a half out of five. skip it. it is terrible. >> let's move on to another one you look a little bit better. hansel and gretel. >> this is a fun movie. like seeing a fairy tale turn into an r-rated action movie. sat down with the leads in the film and i asked them what r- rated movies should be turned into fairy tales. can you fine that answer on nerd tears.com. they have grown up to become witch hunters. the a fun over the top film t requires a relationship with the audience. we'll wink at you, we'll be over the top but we'll deliver

you a great action movie. the audience has to go in there and this is not an oscar script. this is not a film you will be looking for best director, best picture. it is a fun over the top ask adventure which i feel like people can enjoy if you turn your brain off. jeremy renner, i loved him in the hurt locker. but he is lifeless in this movie. there is a character who doesn't have any dialogue who has more character development than jeremy renner in this film. it is fun, over the top. it was shot half in 3-d and half in not 3-d. skip that. three on the -- three out of five. >> would you compare it to the snow white movie? yes, it is very violent. it is like a dark twist on a fairy tale but this is more of the vile the aadult themed movies. >> lastly, parker. you just saw this last night. >> i saw that and the other movie last night.

the interesting thing, the character is the same character mel gibson played in 1999 appear payback and the same character lee marvin played in point blank in 1967 so you've seep this character a million times on screen. i honestly think he has been playing the same character his entire career. i looked lock stock and two smoking barrels but this is about a thief who gets double crossed. jennifer lopez happens tobacco real estate agent where he goes to to seek his revenge. she is fun in the movie. he is good with the action series. i gave it a two and a half out of five. i didn't find the movie to be amazing but i also didn't hate it. two and a half out of five. check the matinee or the rental. >> i would go zero dark thirty,

challenging time around here. the time is the not a great one. the whole thing gets out of here by 10:00 tonight and by tomorrow morning, back in the sunshine with high temperatures tomorrow believe it or not getting above freezing. we may be 34, 35 degrees tomorrow. how much snow are we looking at? not a lot. just like yesterday. about an inch. some spots could get a little more than that. we are thinking the jackpot this time might be northern maryland where you might get closer to 2 or perhaps 3 inches. here is your accu-weather seven- day forecast. even an inch can cause issues when it is sticking. with temperatures only in the 20s, it will. we warm it up by the middle of next week. it will be in the upper 50s for a day or two around the tuesday, wednesday time frame with showers back in the forecast. >> roller coaster ride. >> temperatures all over the place. >> all right. >> that is good news. >> hello, hello. >> good morning to all of up.
